McVeytown Eagles top Kish in weekend action

McVeytown Eagles 20, Kish Football Association 0

MCVEYTOWN – It was a close and physical game for most of the afternoon, but a late offensive surge carried the Eagles of McVeytown over the Kish Football Association in a CKFL Peewee division football game on Sunday.

The first quarter could be best describe as a defensive slugfest as both teams stood their ground refusing to a give up little to no ground.

Such example was the opening drive of the game as McVeytown marched their way down field before turning the ball over on downs near the endzone.

The Kish took their turn on for their first drive of the game. But much like the McVeytown, Kish made it close to the endzone, only to have the Eagles’ defense force a turnover on downs.

The tough physical play continued for most of the second quarter where things looked to be heading into the break with a 0-0 tie. But then McVeytown caught a break as Cael Sheetz found a big hole in the Kish defense and hustled his way downfield where eventually was taken down in the redzone.

Then with 4:15 remaining in the half, the Eagles punched the ball in the endzone with a 12 yard run from Blake Specht who then later on scored the extra point.

Sheetz came up big for McVeytown with a defensive play to close out the second quarter with an interception to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead heading into halftime.

Both McVeytown and Kish defenses came up strong throughout the third quarter with neither team allowing the other’s offense a chance to breathe or get into a rhythm. Neither team were able to put point on the board for the entire quarter.

The Eagles’ offense began to soar in the fourth quarter scoring two touchdowns in the period. The first came with 7:54 remaining as quarterback Colt Bratton got behind the o-line and pushed their way in for a one yard rush. Specht drive in the extra point. Then with 4:24 left on the clock, McVeytown finished the game off as Sheetz found another gap in the Kish defense and powered his way into the endzone to complete a 12 yard run. The extra point attempt failed.

McVeytown now has an overall record of (5-1) while Kish Football Association drops to (2-3). Good luck to both teams.
