MCVEYTOWN – The McVeytown Eagles got on the board early and never looked back as they defeated the Derry-Decatur Cyclones 22-0 in a CKFL Peewee football game Tuesday evening.
All of the scoring came during the first half of the game. The lone touchdown of the opening period, was a big 23 yard pass from Calvin Napikoski over to Matthew Hartsock for the score. Lincoln Knable then added the extra point.
Then in the second quarter, the Eagles came back with another big play, this time was Alexander Weaver who flew up the field for a 13 yard touchdown run. Then Napikoski completed a pass to Hartsock to get the two point conversion.
Hartsock later scored in the quarter with big 20 yard punt return for the score.
It became a defensive battle throughout the second half with both teams making some big plays to stall their opponent’s respective offenses.
One such play for McVeytown was during the third quarter as the Cyclones were on the three yard line but the Eagles forced a fumble which was recovered by Napikoski to hold onto the shutout. The Eagles also had a pair of big hits from both Cole Laughlin and Henley Strausser.
The Cyclones also had some big plays on defense which included big tackles from Parker Walters as well as the Kahley brothers. Brady Kahley was all over the field making tackles for Decatur and brother Evan Kahley made a huge interception in the endzone which prevented a McVeytown touchdown.
McVeytown will host the Terrance Tigers on Sunday while Derry-Decatur will host the Juniata Little Indians on Sunday as well. Both games will be at 1 p.m.
Good luck to both teams!
