McVeytown Wins Over Burnham!

MCVEYTOWN – A pair of big innings at the plate and strong pitching from the bullpen carried McVeytown over Burnham by the final score of 13-6 during a Babe Ruth baseball game Thursday evening.
Burnham scored first in the top of the first inning where Liam Shaffer hit a double to left field which scored Noah Wolfkeil to make it 1-0.
McVeytown responded in the bottom half of the inning scoring six runs in the frame. It started with Gatlin Kauffman who hammered a triple to right which allowed Collen Bush to score. Carson Cherry grounded out to third but managed to bring home Kauffman. Jett Powell kept the offense going with a single that brought home Bo Benny before Jake Knable singled in Powell. Treven Shaffer scored both Knable and Shane Moist with a double to center.
With the score 6-1, Burnham answered with a big inning of their own, scoring five runs in the top of the second. Three of those runs were driven in by walks while one was scored thanks to a hit by pitch and the fifth was scored on a passed ball.
However, McVeytown managed to regroup and get the bats going in the bottom half of the same inning. Bo Benny got it started with a two run single to left, scoring Collen Bush and Carson Cherry. Knable then singled in Benny and Powell.
McVeytown added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with Kauffman singling in Shaffer. Cherry grounded out to third which brought home Bush, then Kauffman flew his way home on a passed ball.
Kauffman, Benny, Powell, Knable and Shaffer all had multiple hits in the game for McVeytown. Meanwhile for Burnham, they were led by Wolfkiel, Cohen Leister, Liam Shaffer, Hunter Benfer and Isiah Burch who all had a hit in the game.
Pitching wise, McVeytown used three pitchers for the game, the starter being Collen Bush who pitched one and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts and three walks. Next was Gatlin Kauffman who pitched the next two and a third innings, collecting three strikeouts and four walks before Carson Cherry closed the game out with the save going the final three innings with five strikeouts and no walks.
Noah Wray got the start for Burnham pitching the first two innings of the game and had two strikeouts and two walks. Cohen Leister pitched the next three and two-thirds innings while scoring five strikeouts while walking three. Liam Shaffer finished the final third inning while having a strikeout and a walk each.
Burnham will look to rebound as they will hit the road and face Belltown while McVeytown will host Belleville. Both games will be on Wednesday.
