LEWISTOWN – Tuesday, the Mifflin County Huskies boys soccer team welcomed in the Shippensburg Greyhounds for a primetime soccer matchup with good weather conditions early but teams later in the game battled far from ideal weather conditions.
In the end, the Huskies fell to the Greyhounds 5-0.
Mifflin County played a strong first 35 minutes as it remained locked at zero. Mifflin County had good looks early from Zach Keller and RJ Miller but the Huskies couldn’t turn those looks into goals in part to the Greyhounds superb defense.
The first score of the game would come with five minutes to go in the the opening half. The goal would come off the foot of junior Seth Hepler.
Shippensburg wouldn’t be satisfied with a loner they would add another goal right before intermission. This time it would come from the senior Gage Sauserman. He would have a pair of goals on the night in the Greyhounds 5-0 shutout win over MIfflin County.
“Shippensburg is a really quality team and we do have our struggles with them admittedly,I thought honestly that we played pretty well at times but the scoreboard just doesn’t reflect it tonight,” said Mifflin County coach Keith Yoder. “We definitely had some mental breakdowns so we need to clean those things up because we have a tough game Thursday, and we’re looking to finish the season strong here so we need to rebound off of this.
The Greyhounds showed that they could do it all at the 14:27 mark. Shippensburg would score on a corner catching the Huskies off guard as Will Clugh would be credited with the goal. Mifflin County would allow four goals in the second half. Greyhounds senior Newell Brenize would have a good look late he would capitalize the next time as he would be able to get one past Jack Suydam for the Greyhounds fifth goal of the night in what was an offense explosion for the Greyhounds following intermission despite both teams battling the elements in the final five minutes of play.
