Mifflin County Christian girls tops Northumberland

Call them the comeback kids!

The Mifflin County Christian girls soccer team fell behind early in the first half  but rallied for a 5-goal second half en route to the 5-2 victory over Northumberland Christian Academy JVs Thursday afternoon.

Starting the game, the Eagles controlled the tempo and took it right to the heart of the Warriors defense.

A couple early Mifflin County corners helped keep the Eagles in the Northumberland side of the ball.

The Lady Eagles continued to pound the ball at the Warriors end but just barely missed an extra touch that would have opened up a hole in the defense.

Despite dominating most of the stanza, Northumberland chipped a goal at the 13:25 mark giving them the lead going into the intermission.

After a motivating halftime speech by Eagles coaches, the team came out into the second half highly motivated and ready for action.

At 32:32, Lea Gentzel broke to the net and sent a sizzling shot past the Northumberland goalie, tying the game at one.

Less than five minutes later, Mifflin County found itself back on the scoreboard. Megan Weyant scored the Eagles second goal, making it a 2-1 lead for the home team.

Not even a minute later, the Eagles were back at work and found the back of the net.

Maddie Baumgardner picked up a rebound at the net and sent it through, upping the lead to 3-1.

The Warriors cut the lead to one with just 21:45 to go.

But the Eagle lead would not relinquished as Mifflin County got one last goal.

Amanda Peachey snuck one past the Warriors goalie to take the 5-2 victory.
