Mifflin County falls just short in comeback attempt; falls to Redland

By Kenny Varner

LEWISTOWN – Building off of last year’s post season playoff berth, the New Look MIfflin County boys basketball team showed its intimidating defense and full court press will be a force to be reckoned with, especially the gutty and gritty play by Connor Zimmerman. Zimmerman was everywhere and came up with a clutch steal or rebounded when his team needed it.

However, offensively the Huskies weren’t able to get the shots go in that they needed to before falling to Redland 58-50 Tuesday night in a revved up MIfflin County high school gym and most importantly the student section.

The game was closer than the score showed as the Huskies had a fourth quarter run that would cut the Patriots lead to just one.

Landon Eichhorn sizzled from field, finishing with 19 points.

Cade Penepacker finished with 12.

Going into the final stanza, Mifflin County found itself trailing 44-35, MIfflin County continued to force turnover with its pesky defense, closing the gap to within one, giving the Jammed packed student section a chance to cheer on their players.

However, the Patriots continued to push the ball down and then take time off the clock, working it around the arc forcing the Huskies to foul.

Redland made the most of their foul line opportunity, extending the lead back to eight before the final buzzer.

Opening the game, the Patriots jumped out to an early 18-11 advantage after one.

The Patriots were able to keep MIfflin County at bay to finish off the half, leading 17.

In the third, MIfflin County again posted a strong defensive effort but Redland was still able to post 19 points in the period, setting up the drama for the final stanza.
