SHIPPENSBURG- Friday, the Mifflin County football team (2-2) traveled to Veterans Memorial Field to take on the Shippensburg (3-1).
The Greyhounds jumped out quickly and held on to beat the Huskies 21-6.
Shippensburg led early and often it all began on the opening drive where it took the Greyhounds 16 plays on 75 yards on a four yard rushing touchdown from Jayden Hernandez to give Shippensburg an early 7-0 lead.
Shippensburg had 101 total yards on offense in the first half as they Greyhounds led 14-0 at halftime.
Mifflin County started to find momentum late in the first half that would carry them into the second half on a pass from Joel Beamer where the Huskies ran 11 plays for 70 yards to get them on the board.
“They made enough plays to keep the chains moving. We took a shot there and we saw something on film that we liked,” said Mifflin County Huskies head coach Shane Breon. “That player is a great athlete. I liked the way our guys played tonight. We are so close to beating good teams. Maybe just need to focus and work harder and give a little more effort.”
Shippensburg would tally another score on a 25-yard score from Mark Carothers to extend the lead 21-6.
The winning should start next week for Mifflin County as they welcome in Palmyra at Donald Chapman Stadium for Homecoming night.
