MIfflin County Field Hockey ties series with State College

Photos by Jeff Shomo

Only two days earlier, State College defeated Mifflin County, their District 6 rival, 4-1. However, this time it was a very different game when State College met Mifflin County on their home field and instead of playing on turf, the game was played on grass.
State College was the first to strike and at the 9:00 minute mark in the first quarter, Maddy Shomo scored for State College on a defensive rebound to put SC ahead 1-0. A few minutes later in the first quarter, MC’s Hailee Sheetz scored at 5:42off an assist from Lydia Hidlay to tie the game 1-1. The battle continued throughout the rest of regulation play, and the fourth quarter ended in a tie 1-1. The game went into 7v7 overtime and State College continued to move the ball into MC’s circle with several opportunities to score. However, at 6:59, when SC was down a player, MC’s Hailee Sheetz scored to end the game 1-2. State College will meet Mifflin County again for the District 6 Championship on Tuesday, November 3 at the Bald Eagle Area Stadium. State College is now 7-3-1 for the season and travels to Cedar Cliff on Monday for their next game.
