Mifflin County Girls Lacrosse improves to 2-0

By Kenny Varner

LEWISTOWN – On a soggy Monday afternoon, the MIfflin County Huskies girls lacrosse team hosted the young and upstart Midd-West team to open its home portion of the season.

But the heat was intense for the Lady Huskies in the scoring department as they defeated the Mustangs 15-2.

“We had a rough start at the beginning. But we really struggled to get going,” said MIfflin County coach Teresa Lemont said. “We feel really confident in what we’re doing. Our goal in to always improve the transition between offense and defense. We did a good job with that. That was a rough start but I think we really dialed it in towards the end. Sometimes it’s just about settling into a game.”

Mc took the ball down right away as they went into the circle was able to get two scoring opportunities in the first few minutes.

Monica Drukemiller posted the Huskies first goal, making it a 1-0 contest.

Mifflin County dictated the tempo throughout allowing the Mustangs only a little time in their defensive side of the field.

Haliee Sheetz added to the scoring list as blazed down the field and put the ball down quickly into Midd-West territory scoring one past the Mustangs goal, 2-0.

Minutes later Brenna Dobson upped the lead catching the pass in traffic and sending it home.

The Mustangs struck just seconds later when Ella Benner smashed a one hopper that made it in the goal, cutting it to 3-1.

“We do have a young team. But I think that they really hustled tonight,” said Kailey Wagner. “Passing wise we got a little bit lazy at times instead of using the whole field. It kind of all went into the middle. But other than that I thought they did really well. Overall, we have five girls that aren’t here tonight. So we were missing quite a few of our starters.”

On MIfflin County’s next possession, Ella Kammerer caught a pass from Mara Gallo.  Gallo and Kammerer made a strong connection hooking up for the Huskies 4-1.

Sadie Fike made it 5-1 taking the MIfflin County ball during the face off and then taking the ball down for goal number six.

The Huskies were tough off the face off scoring two more goals in just minutes of each other.

Midd-West refused to go away hiring a goal in the final minutes. It would be Benner who would notch her second goal on the night, cutting it to a 6-2 contest.

But Kammerer added another goal minutes later as she picked up ball in the middle and blasted a shot, continuing the scoring run.

When the dust settled ending the first half, the Lady Huskies led a comfortable 9-2 advantage.

In the second half, MIfflin County

Fike got back on the scoreboard when she hit an underhand scoop shot for first goal of the half.

From there, it was all Huskies as they went on to take the 15-2 win.
