Mifflin county junior high XC battles Hershey and Palmyra

Stellar individual performances Wednesday by the Mifflin County junior high cross country teams in a tri-meet with Palmyra and Hershey at Indian Valley Elementary Center in Reedsville.

Once again, however, the Huskies were vastly outnumbered but claimed the top places in both the boys’ and girls’ places and locked in three other top ten finishes.

Levi Anderson won his first race of the year and scored his third PR in as many races. Teammate Kenneth Swartzell finished close behind in third place for his best finish and time of the season. Aiden Wible recorded a PR as well in 18th place out of 50, and Nolan Wade race his second fastest time of the year. Competing with just four runners, Mifflin County couldn’t overcome a huge numbers disadvantage, coming up short against Palmyra (12 runners) 24-35 and Hershey (34 runners) 25-36.

In the girls’ race, Mifflin County’s Daliyah Bargas cruised to her fourth top finish, with Lillen Adams and Maddy Yoder picking up places in the last 1000 meters to finish 4th and 6th, respectively. Jakalya Colon ran 18th and Adalyn Lutz 19th to close out the scoring. Again, with the benefit of more competitors, Palmyra, with seven more runners, edged MC 26-33, while Hershey, sporting nine more athletes, barely squeaked by the Huskies 29-30.

Mifflin County will be back on the starting line Saturday, traveling to the Gettysburg Invitational at Gettysburg High School.
