Mifflin County notches first win of the year

Mifflin County picked up its first win of the young season as they defeated Big Spring Saturday.

The Huskies led 2-0 at halftime.

Bruce Baker slipped a ball behind the defense to Connor Lynch who then found RJ Miller to find the back of the net.

Brayden Benfer played an excellent corner to Kayden Hook to head it home.

Landon Mazur stayed strong on the back post to finish from Kayden Hook to bring it to a 3-0 final for Mifflin County to win.

Mifflin County led in shots on goal by an 8-2 margin. They also led in corner opportunities 6-0.

4 saves by MIfflin County goalie Jack Suydam saved four to preserve a clean sheet that he has earned with his hard practice and playing minutes. 

Big spring defeated the Huskies JV 6-0.

Mifflin County battled West Perry in the Bulldog Bash Tournament Championship. 

It was a very intense matchup with West Perry winning 3-2.

The score was deadlocked at 2-2 at intermission. 

West Perry went up first with a tough PK call and then got one more with 13 minutes to go in the first half off a nice square ball.

Then, we had an excellent corner played by Brayden Benfer and finished by RJ Miller to get it back to 2-1 with 9 minutes left in the half. Then, more fight showed by all our boys when with 9.8 seconds left in the first half Brayden Benfer finished a direct kick to knots us up going into the break.

The back-and-forth game continued in the 2nd half with us on the front foot at the start of the second half. Physicality increased a bit. There was a free kick given and finished by West Perry with 15 minutes left. But the Huskies continued their fight until the final whistle to take second place.The Huskies led in shots on goal 5-4 and in corners 8-2.

“An overall great day for our guys in the fight, effort, and hard play. Using what we have worked on and talking about at practice and film has been working for us we want to keep on climbing,” said assistant coach Todd Peters.
