Mifflin County volleyball team notches first win of the season

LEWISTOWN – Clean sweep!

Two young teams met up Thursday night when the ‘New Look’ MIfflin County volleyball team hosted the up and coming East Juniata program.

Though the two battled back-and-forth with each team having made some crucial plays but in the end, the Lady Huskies swept the Tigers 3-0 (25-19, 25-22 and 25-13.

In the first game, the two combined for 21 side outs.

East Juniata got strong effort from Kendhal Stroup as she had six digs and an assist.

“It was a Tough loss for varsity as they battled hard the first two sets,” said East Juniata coach Maisie Aumiller.

Leading the way for the Huskies on the service line was Dakota Hershberger with five service points.

Teammate Riley Hine had three service points.

East Juniata was led by Marissa Lauver who had four service points.

The two kept things close, 19-17 when the Huskies would go on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 24-17.

Hershberger and her team were clutch under pressure as she put her team on the brink of the first game win, which they would eventually get on a side out.

Game two proved to be quite the battle.

After MIfflin County picked up the first point of the game, the Tigers rolled off three consecutive points thanks to the serving of Kaylene Mann, giving the visitors a 3-1 advantage.

But the Huskies wouldn’t stay behind for long as they rallied right back going on a 5-0 run with Hine at the service line. In the run, Hine had an ace.

East Juniata cut it to an 8-6 score, picking up a service point by Brenna Watts.

Like it did early in the contest, Mifflin County rallied back on a mini run, lifting the home team to a 12-7 advantage. In the scoring spurt, server Taylor Seese had two consecutive aces.

Mifflin County would extend its lead to 21-11 before East Juniata rallied its biggest comeback effort of the night.

Watts was at it again on the line as she helped her team roll of seven consecutive service points, cutting it to a 21-19 contest.

However, MIfflin County would never relinquish the lead as they took the second game by a 25-21 contest.

Mifflin County controlled the momentum in the third contest, sparking a 25-13 win thanks to a scoring run of five consecutive service points by Grace-Paez Davoil.

The Huskies also won the JV contest, posting scores of 25-16 and 25-14.
