Mount Union baseball explodes for 16 runs in season opening victory

Mount Union won big over Bellwood-Antis Varsity Blue Devils 16-1 on Friday.

Mount Union fired up the offense in the first inning, when Ryan Scott singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

Mount Union put up eight runs in the fourth inning. Mount Union batters contributing to the big inning included Blaine Hunsinger, Ryan Plank, Wyatt Chrisemer, Bryce Danish, Cainen Atherton, and Braylan Knable, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Scott earned the win for Mount Union. The hurler went four innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out four.

Jack Luensmann took the loss for Bellwood-Antis Varsity Blue Devils. Luensmann lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and eight runs while striking out three.

Mount Union racked up ten hits. Danish, Atherton, and Hunsinger each racked up multiple hits for Mount Union. Hunsinger, Atherton, and Danish each collected two hits to lead Mount Union. Mount Union was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Knable made the most plays with four.

Bellwood-Antis Varsity Blue Devils racked up six hits on the day. Luensmann and Vincent Cacciotti all collected multiple hits for Bellwood-Antis Varsity Blue Devils.
