Mount Union tops MC in 12U All-Star Championship action

LEWISTOWN – Mount Union made their opportunities count when they needed them most as late inning scoring propelled Mount Union to winning the Cal Ripken 12U District 13 baseball championship over Mifflin County.

Cole Strawser got it started for Mifflin County in the top of the second inning, launching a titanic shot over the right field fence, scoring himself and Easton Lepley.
Down 2-0, Mount Union responded in the bottom of the second where they had three runs come in. It started with a first pitch home run by Jamon Ranck. Zane Chrisemer then came to the plate with the bases loaded and was hit by a pitch which scored Aiden Hamman-Briggs. Naz Collins found himself at home plate after a passed ball.
Mifflin County would even the score in the top of the third with the bases loaded and Strawser drew a walk to score Blaze Shreffler.
Then in the bottom half of the inning, TY’Jier Hooper put Mount Union back on top with a single to left, scoring Levi Hunsinger. Collins came back to the plate and smacked a double to center field to bring home both Ranck and Hooper.


Shreffler brought in the final run of the game for Mifflin County as he singled to right center scoring Carter Smith.
Mount Union took advantage of a Mifflin County error in left to add on two more runs before Hamman-Briggs hammered a two run shot over left field to make it 10-4 Mount Union.
Shreffler was the top hitter for Mifflin County going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Strawser was 1-for-2 including his two RBI home run.
Ranck led Mount Union going 2-for-3 with a home run. Collins was 1-for-2 with an RBI double. Hamman-Briggs was also 1-for-2 with a home run.
Easton Lepley got the start for Mifflin County going three innings with two strikeouts and two walks each. Shreffler and Strawser each pitched an inning.


Lhaden was given the nod to start for Mount Union going two and a third innings with a strikeout and two walks. Then Ranck took over the remaining three and two-thirds innings collecting five strikeouts and a walk.
Congrats to both teams for an incredible tournament.
