Mount Union Wins Over Moshannon Valley

MOUNT UNION – The dynamic duo of Nasir Collins and Caizon Scott led the way for the Mount Union Trojans in their victory over the Moshannon Valley Black Knights by the final score of 34-19 in ICC football action this past Friday night.
Moshannon Valley got on the board first, but in the way the Black Knights were hoping for. Despite chewing out a ton of clock, they were unable to score a touchdown thanks to the efforts of the Mount Union defense.
Ultimately, Moshannon Valley settled with a 35 yard field goal by junior JC Smith to go up 3-0 nothing with 4:25 remaining in the opening quarter.
However, the Trojans responded quickly on their first offensive drive as Collins, with 3:16 left in the first, stormed down the sideline going 60 yards for the rushing touchdown. But the extra point attempt was blocked making it 6-3.
The Black Knights then even the score as Smith came back out and this connected on a 38 yard field goal with just 36 seconds left of the quarter.
Collins opened up the second quarter with a nine yard touchdown run to put Mount Union back on top making it 13-6.
From then on it was all Mount Union as the Trojans came up big on defense as Rahmeir Smith sacked the quarterback as well as forcing a fumble which was recovered by Henry Petron.
Mount Union then turned the turnover into points as Collins launched a deep pass to Scott going 43 yards for the score making it 20-6 going into halftime.
The Trojans added more during the third quarter as Collins and Scott connected again, this time going 22 yards for the touchdown, extending the lead to 27-6.
The final Mount Union touchdown came from Scott on a jet sweep which ended up going all the way to the house for 63 yards.
Despite the deficit, Moshannon Valley continued to battle as the Black Knights scored their final two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The first, came with just under five minutes to play as quarterback Brady Mihalko launched a rocket that was tipped by a Mount Union defender and landed right into the hands of receiver Jack Moore who proceeded to race into the endzone going 46 yards.
Then as time expired, Mihalko found Cooper Keith for a 22 yard touchdown.
Overall Collins had 17 carries for 145 yards, two rushing touchdowns to go along with his eight for ten passing for 111 yards and two passing touchdowns.
Scott had four carries on the ground, going 88 yards with a touchdown while in the air, Scott collected 6 catches for 93 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Meanwhile for the Black Knights, Mihalko went 10 for 23 for 162 yards and two touchdown passes. Rocco Reifer had 25 carries for 184 yards.
Mount Union is now (4-1, 3-0) and will be at Glendale this coming Friday at 7 p.m.
