Penns Valley and Juniata battles down to the wire

SPRING MILLS – Excitement led off the evening in the second day of the Ram Winter Jam held at the Penns Valley High School.
It was Juniata County going head-to-head against Centre County when the Juniata Indians boys basketball team went up against Penns Valley.
In a low scoring defensive affair, the Rams were able to hold onto a 39-38 nail biter.
The Indians went into the final quarter, trailing Penns Valley 34-31.
But the Rams upped its lead to four when the Rams took their first possession and made the most of it.
The Rams offense got the ball to sharpshooting guard Logan Snyder and he stepped behind the 3-point line and sunk it, making it 37-33.
Both teams went into a slower tempo on offense, making sure of its shot selections.
Juniata got its offense started when Bryson Clark went strong in the hole, cutting it to 37-35.
With the time running down to under three minutes, the Rams’ Cole Breon backed his way in and hit a tricky bucket to extend the lead back out to four, 39-35.
Less than a minute later Juniata’s Clark brought his team to within one as he hit an old fashion three-point play as he was fouled in the process of making a jumper.
Clark was clutch under pressure hitting the free throw and giving his team a punchers chance, 39-38.
Penns Valley called a time out and took some valuable time off the clock.
However, the Indians were able to get the ball back with the time running off the clock.
But the Rams were able to hold their own on defense and hold onto the lead as the game ended on a errant long pass that went out of bounds as the buzzer sounded.
The game started out as a low scoring contest as the Rams were able to post 11 while the Indians were held to seven.
Penns Valley was able to continue the lead as the two teams went into the intermission, leading 17-13.
Both teams battled with a post season frenzy and it was a contest where most fans would not want to see either team take the loss. Both can take this game and build on it.
