Penns Valley boys soccer team takes home BEA kick-off title

Although the Penns Valley Boys soccer squad began their 2022 campaign with a somewhat inauspicious scrimmage match last week, they made a clear 180 in the BEA Kick-off tournament last weekend and kicked off their season with an epic tournament championship.

“I can’t even remember the last time we’ve beaten Bellefonte and Bald Eagle back-to-back.” said Rams head coach Ken Gore. “They are both great teams with exceptional coaches and my team was fortunate to come out ahead this time. This was a feat that we are unlikely to repeat in the near – or distant future!”

Penns Valley drew first blood in both matches of the day by scoring early goals – then also sealed up both matches with mid-game and late goals.

Except for a few shots wide and one over top, most of Penns Valley’s shots were low, hard and on-frame.

“We have really been drilling it into the guys to get the ball on frame with every shot and that hard work is paying off. We need to ensure that we keep up this trend.”

In both matches, Penns Valley’s 4-back defense played solid – although not without some alarming occasions when attackers broke through. But a couple heroic plays by defensive players and a number of exceptional saves by senior keeper Gavin Robb kept Penns Valley rolling through the tournament and building invaluable confidence as they head into important matches over the next couple weeks.
