Penns Valley girls scores tough road win at Tyrone

TYRONE -Monday, the Lady Rams got their week off and running as they defeated Tyrone on the road 6-2.

“Tyrone is a tough team that has come on over the past couple seasons.  They came out ready to play and our girls didn’t and we conceded early.  But we started settling into the game a bit and a great through ball from Hannah Montminy found the run of Katie Martell, who tucked away a composed finish,” said Penns Valley Coach Andrew Beverly. “As the first half continued, we started stringing passes together, controlling the tempo and creating chances.  A nicely taken PK from Montminy and a great header by Cate Goodwin closed out the half well for us.  We were able to keep up the momentum despite a strong response from Tyrone and Freshman Nikki Denger stepped up big for us.  Nikki popped up with a hat trick in just over 8 minutes to put the game away for us.  She’s been working hard since the first day of preseason and it all just happened to pay off for her in the second half.  Overall it was a good response from our girls after starting slow and going down early.”

Tyrone landed the first goal when Eliza Vance posted an unassisted goal at 3:24.

PV – Katie Martell picked her team’s first goal thanks to an assist by Hannah Montminyat 12:05.

Montminy called her own number later in the first at 36:18, giving her team a 2-1 advantage.

Early in the second, PEnns Valley’s Nikki Denger off an another assist by Montminy increased their lead at 48:55.
