Penns Valley girls shut out by strong Clearfield team

Playing against a strong Clearfield team Wednesday night, the results weren’t quite as the Penns Valley girls would have hoped as they fell 3-0 to the Bison.

In the first, the two played it close through out but at 32:53 Clearfield’s Elle Smith posted an unassisted shot, giving her team a 1-0 advantage going into the second.

Late in the contest Amanda Hazel gave her team some breathing room as she hit an unassisted goal as well at 62:29.

Smith finished the game off with a final goal at 69:30.

Clearfield led in the shots on goal department by a 19-10 margin.

Both teams finished with five corners of their own.

Penns Valley goalie Kylie Auman tallied 12 while Clearfield’s Cayleigh Walker finished with eight.

Tonight was the unfortunate combination of our group not playing to their best and facing a strong Clearfield group that played really well.  We knew going in that tonight would be yet another tough league game but we just couldn’t put things together on both offense and defense tonight.  We struggled to keep possession for most of the game and when we made mistakes defensively we were punished,” said Penns Valley coach Andrew Beverly. “The league is so competitive that if you’re not playing at or near your best then there’s a good chance you’ll lose and credit to Clearfield tonight as they played a good game and made things even more difficult for us tonight.  But there’s no time for us to dwell on our rough night as we now have to go right back at it against a strong Huntingdon team tomorrow night.”

Penns Valley’s record is now 6-1 and 4-1 in the Mt. League. Their next game is tomorrow vs Huntingdon.
