Penns Valley girls shut out Lady Raiders

The Penns Valley girls soccer team used a goal in both the first and second half in their contest against Bellefonte to muscle out a hard fought 2-0 victory Wednesday.

“Penns Valley versus Bellefonte games are always close, tough games.  We were able to get off to a great start and push the action for a majority of the first half.  Scotty Dinges was a major threat for us up top and combined well with Cate Goodwin to tuck away a nice goal early on,” said Penns Valley coach Andrew Beverly. “Our backline did a great job to contain Bellefonte’s dangerous attackers for large portions of the game.  We lost our way a little bit in the second half but Cate Goodwin scored a brilliant header off of a corner kick from Ellie Brinker to seal the win for us.  It was a strong team performance from the girls tonight and that is what was needed in order to get the result.”

Just 10:36 left in the first half, Scotty Dinges with an assist by Cate Godwin put the Lady Rams on the board.

From there both defenses took over as they kept the other from adding any more points on the board in the first half.

The two picked up where they left off in the first stanza as the defenses refused to let any kind of easy shot opportunity go through.

However, with the clock winding down, Goodwin gave her team a little bit of insurance with her unassisted goal.

Penns Valley led the game in shots on goal by a 13-6 margin and also controlled the corner shots by 5-1 effort.

Penns Valley’s record is now 5-5 (4-5 in the Mt League).  Our next game is on Saturday against Central Mountain.
