Penns Valley girls top Mounties

The Penns Valley girls soccer team opened the week with a win, posting a 4-2 win over Philipsburg -Osceola.

“Today was a game that could have had several different scorelines.  We were able to capitalize on a few more chances but it was a close even game.  Scotty Dinges got us going in the first half and was able to complete her hat trick in the second half with a great finish off a corner kick.  Rayanne Witmer and Ellie Brinker really stepped it up for us in the second half and enabled us to see out the game,” said Penns Valley coach Andrew Beverly. “We have to continue to work on making things as hard as we can for the other team defensively but the team has responded well to some adversity with injuries and we hope to keep the momentum going into our next game.”

Penns Valley started out the game scoring with a goal from Scotty Dinges thanks an assist by Ceci Falls at 13:33. Dinges finished the contest with a hat trick.

Minutes later, the Mounties tied the contest Madison Vaughn scored at 15:50, making it a 1-1 tie.

Dinges was back at it 22:14, scoring the go ahead goal at 2-1.

The Rams upped the lead to 3-1 when Cate Goodwin picked up a pass from teammate Marinn Peters. With 25:17 left, Dinges scored upped the lead to 3-1. Rounding out the scoring at 50:18, was Lily Warlow who score off a penalty kick at 56:55.

Penns Valley out shot Philipsburg-Osceola 15-14 while both tied in corner opportunities with three.

Penns Valley goalie Noelle Webb tallied eight saves while 8 the Mounties got Paige Pishel had 11.

Penns Valley’s record is now 3-3 (2-3 in the Mountain Legue) Penns Valley’s next game is on Wednesday against Hollidaysburg.
