Penns Valley girls tough out a victory over Central

Penns Valley continues its winning ways Wednesday as it topped Central 2-0 on the road.

The Lady Rams got goals from

Katie Martell and Nikki Denger.

Martell picked up an unassisted goal at 6:52 while Denger picked up a goal off an Abby Stitzer assist at 22:59.

Both teams finished with 16 shots on goal each while both had one corner each.

Ironically, the two teams also got the same save amounts from both goalies.  Penns Valley’s Kylie Auman had 12 as did Central’s Katryn Longenecker.

“Central away is always one of our toughest games of the year and today was no different.  We were very happy with our girls’ performance today.  We had given them some new things on short notice and they were able to adapt and work well as a team,” said Penns Valley coach Andrew Beverly. “Yet again, Katie Martell and Nikki Denger came up with the goals for us today.  They are two of the most dangerous attackers in the area and it’s great to see them getting the results from all of their hard work.  Great work from Scotty Dinges forced an error that led to Martell’s goal and another freshman, Abby Stitzer, got her first point of the season by setting up Nikki for her goal.  Maria Lovallo and Anna Korman were excellent in our midfield and Ellie Brinker put in another great performance at a new position for her.  Kylie Auman came up big today to save a penalty kick and looked assured with her handling and positioning in goal today.  If we can keep getting performances like this from these girls then there is the potential for a great season ahead for us.  But there is a long way to go and we have a big week coming up with four important games so we’ll keep working on improving from day to day.”

Penns Valley’s record is now 5-0 and 4-0 in the Mt. League.  The Rams next game in 9/28 vs St. Joe’s.
