Game Recap:
Penns Valley continues to gain momentum in Mountain League boys soccer as they recorded their 5th win of the season Monday afternoon. Senior forward Michael Johnson scored one goal and added 2 assists to lead the Rams to a 3-1 victory over Tyrone.
Penns Valley started off by controlling much of the play and keeping the ball in Tyrone’s half for a large portion of the first 40 minutes. Five minutes in, senior midfielder Connor Martz went vertical to finish a spectacular header off a soaring Michael Johnson throw-in from the right side.
“We have a really effective combination with strong corner-like throws from Michael into the middle and Connor’s incredible ability to get up high and win the ball,” explained Rams head coach Ken Gore, “It’s a fantastic thing to see when we get that attack working. Just about anyone going up against Connor in the air is going to get beat.”
Senior forward Zach Heckman found the back of the net with a great 14-yard strike from the right side in the 16th minute and Michael Johnson added his own spectacular redirect header with his back to goal off a 25 yard free kick from Connor Martz. During the 2nd half, Tyrone worked hard to create some dangerous chances that shook up the Penns Valley defense but could only finish once after some very close, but unlucky shots just off-frame.
The Rams look to continue their momentum with a crucial match at home against Bellefonte on Thursday afternoon.
Record: 5-3

Next game: Bellefonte at Penns Valley, Thursday 10/8 4:00 pm
