Penns Valley tops Bald Eagle Area in boys soccer

The Penns Valley Rams rolled to a key 5-0 victory over rival Bald Eagle in Mountain League boys soccer action Monday evening. Due to delays and scheduling changes in September, this was the first regular season meeting between the two teams – so meeting for the first time in early October is very unusual.

Penns Valley head coach Ken Gore talked about the timing of the match and how his team has improved in the last month or so.

“We’re a very different team than we were earlier [this season], so the outcome could have been a little different if we had played back in September.”

“We’ve had our share of ups and downs so far, but my guys are playing really really well now. We have been working and drilling all season on passing, possession, control, and movement, and we’re reaping the rewards of that diligence now.”

“In addition to that skill and strategy work, we have implemented some things to give us more focus and purpose in our play. I’m really proud of my guys and what they’ve accomplished so far – especially my defense anchored by senior center back Kyle Niewinski and backed up by one of – if not the – best keeper in the league [junior Gavin Robb].”

The Rams earned their 6th shutout of the season so far – and gave up only one goal in each of three other matches.

Penns Valley’s starting front line and midfielders – led by seniors Aidan Culver, Nate Long, Danny Gray, Jack O’Donald, and Alex King formulate a dangerous offense/midfield that keeps getting better each match. Culver’s 2 precision goals and Long’s amazing 20 yard corner finish off the right side of the pitch were key indicators of the Ram’s potent offensive attack.

“We’re peaking at the perfect time,” said Gore “and let’s hope and pray that momentum takes us right into the D6 playoffs in a few weeks!”

Record: 6-6-1
