Penns Valley’s Martell leads team to win over MoValley

The Penns Valley girls soccer team got its season off and running on a solid note as it defeated Moshannon Valley 6-1.

Katie Martell led the Rams’ charge as she posted four of her teams’ six goals.

Today was a good start to our season.  We’re still a little behind where we’d like to be at this point but overall just thankful to be having a season.  The girls have been working hard and trying out some new things.  Today they were able to put all of this to work and we came away with a great result and some good experience for a lot of our girls,” said Penns Valley Coach Andrew Beverly. “Katie Martell is a dangerous player and she got us going right from the start. She was able to combine well with Nikki Denger, Cate Goodwin and Anna Korman all game long and we scored some great goals.  Next up will be a tough first league game against Bellefonte and also our Senior Night so we’ll be looking to honor our six seniors with another good performance.”

Martell started off the scoring thanks to an assist by Nikki Denger at 1:10,

Thirteen minutes later Martell was at it again this time with an assist by Cate Goodwin at 14:20,

After providing Martell with an assist early in the contest Denger picked up a goal of her own off an assist by Anna Korman at 18:26.

Martell was back at it late in the first on an unassisted goal at 28:18

Mo Valley notched it’s lone goal by Emily Davis at 34:47, trailing the Lady Rams 4-1 at the half.

Going into the second, Denger notched goal number two off an assist by Martell at 47:05.

Martell bookmarked the scoring as she picked up an assist by Ellie Brinker, finishing the scoring at 6-1.

Penns Valley outshot MoShannon Valley27- 5.

The Rams’ goalie Kylie Auman had three saves while MoValley’s Kate Fox had nine.

Penns Valley’s record is now 1-0 and our next game is on 9/15 vs Bellefonte.
