PO boys take Southern Huntingdon tip-off Tournament title
THREE SPRINGS – After posting 70 points in their season opener against Southern Huntingdon, the Philipsburg-Osceola boys basketball team captured the Southern Huntingdon Tip Off Tournament, topping Mount Union 66-60 Saturday.
Numerous Mounties were selected to the All Tournament Team. They were; Jeremy Whitehead and Ryan Whitehead and Tournament MVP – Ryan Whitehead.
Ryan Whitehead led all scorers in the game, posting a 21-point effort.
Ryan Whitehead also had 10 rebounds while Kaleb Richardson finished with a double-double posting 12 points and 10 Rebounds.
However, to start the game, Mount Union outscored the Mounties 14-10 in the first period.
But the Mounties battled back to take the lead at the half scoring 20 while the Trojans had another 14-point effort.
At the half, Philipsburg had a slim 30-28 advantage.
Mount Union came out strong out of the break, posting a 22-point effort while the Mounties rallied for 17.
But the night belonged to PO as they used a tough defense allowing just 11 while its offense posted 19 to five the Mounties the win and the title.
