PO boys uses 17-point third quarter to notch win over BEA

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA – The Philipsburg-Osceola boys’ basketball team upped its record to 9-9 on the season as they defeated a very tough Bald Eagle Area team Wednesday night, 61-48.
Leading the way offensively for the Mounties was Ryan Whitehead with 17 points. He was followed by brother Jeremy Whitehead with a 16-point effort. Jeremy Whitehead and De Simone both collected two triples.
Teammate Jacob De Simone rounded out the double-digit scorers with 15.
Despite the loss, Bald Eagle was led by Nick Maynard who tallied 16 while teammate Jaden Jones posted a 14-point effort. Jones was tough from beyond the arc, finishing with three.
The Mounties opened the contest outscoring the Eagles 14-11 after one quarter.
But Bald Eagle bounced back in the second, outscoring PO 17-14.
The two went into the intermission tied at 28.
In the third, the Mounties defense held the Eagles to just five as its offense produced 17 to push ahead with a 12-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
The two went head-to-head in the final period but Philipsburg-Osceola was able to hold to the 61-48 victory.
