PSU Altoona’s Matias Harte, helps team to victory

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men’s soccer team travelled to face Penn State Scranton today, where they won 2-0.
In the 20th minute, Matias Harte (State College, PA/State College) would pull away from Penn State Scranton’s defense before driving the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. There would be some debate about whether Harte was offside in the buildup, but the goal would stand to make the score 1-0. There would be shots exchanged between the two Penn State teams at the end of the half, but the halftime score would be 1-0.
In the second half, Harte would score off a rebound in the 70th minute for his second goal of the game and fourth goal of the season. Although Penn State Scranton would have opportunities, Penn State Altoona would keep them out to finish the game 2-0.
In total, there were 19 shots (13 on goal) for Penn State Altoona, compared to 4 (3 on goal) for Penn State Scranton.
Defensively, freshman goalkeeper Alejandro Monjarretz (Managua, Nicaragua / St. Augustine Preparatory School) did his job when called upon, making three saves in 90 minutes of play to keep a clean sheet for the Lions.
Up next, the Penn State Altoona men’s soccer team starts conference play, travelling up to Erie to face Penn State Behrend on Saturday, September 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
