Reed: Gerwick shines in MC15-16s victory

MILROY – Mifflin County played their second game of pool play looking to remain unbeaten Mifflin County was tasked with facing Atlantic Shore.
Hall of Famer Dave Wolfkill threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
“I grew up in a baseball family with my dad I knew what my dad did going up through and when I was 15 I actually got to pitch in a championship game also,” said Chris Wolfkill son of Dave. “I was the first father son team to ever get to do that which was a great thing to be here tonight to share this with him means alot to me.”
Thad Gerwick was strong on the mound pitching a one-hit shut out in the 6-0 win over Atlantic Shore.
“We shook the lineup a little bit Na Zae to the top of the order he did exactly what we wanted him to do stir things up,” said MC coach Dennis Yetter. “Gerwick came up with a big hit one man show today he threw terrific today pitched a shutout today to earn us the top seed. He went out and threw a shutout. A one-hit shutout. He really did well the rest of the team did well moved runners along it was an unselfish team effort it was a really well played baseball game. “

Mifflin County Na Zae Traxler lined out to shortstop to begin the game but the team would back him up with Elliot Yetter drawing a walk to start things. Carson Cherry would rope a single while Jayden Smith would take first after getting plunked by a pitch.
The man that started off the hit parade on Thursday, Gerwick, came through big again on a bases clearing double to give Mifflin County a 3-0 lead.
Gerwick had an outstanding performance on the bump not allowing a run though seven innings of work to go the distance. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Gerwick got out of a bases loaded jam.
Atlantic Shore grounded out to shortstop as Mifflin County got the forceout at second to escape the jam.
Yetter, Cherry and Braxton Smith and Traxler recorded hits in the winning effort for Mifflin County.
The star hurler Gerwick went 4.2 innings without allowing a baserunner.
He made short work of the lineup in the bottom of the seventh to seal the deal.
Mifflin County earns the number one seed and will play again on Sunday MIfflin County will get a bye Saturday.
