UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State Nittany Lions (3-2) welcomed in the Northwestern Wildcats (3-2)
The Nittany Lions coming into this game looking to win their first conference game with already having lost to Oregon and a tough one at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena against a UCLA team that is in the rebuilding process but still stunned the Lions.
The Wildcats were 1-1 against conference opponents with their only win coming against the Bruins who defeated Penn State a week ago.
Penn State got off to a less than impressive start after Drew Allar’s pass was picked off by Ore Adeyi for a 33-yard return the Wildcats would turn that into three points on a drive that consisted of 12 plays 58 yards to give Northwestern a 3-0 lead over a sputtering Penn State team.
Northwestern relied on Caleb Komolafe to do the dirty work in a hostile environment like Westshore Home Field at Beaver Stadium but Komolafe would block out that Stripe out energy to help put his team on his back putting up 72 yards on 19 carries in the teams 22-21 win over Penn State.
The Wildcats were also led by a strong performance from their veteran quarterback in Preston Stone as he silenced the Beaver Stadium crowd and completed 17 of 26 throwing a touchdown to go along with that he would throw for 163 yards.
Yards also weren’t hard to come by for the Wildcats receivers Griffin Wilde had himself a game compiling 94 yards on seven catches Northwestern racked up 84 yards after the catch that was huge part of stunning the Nits in front of the home crowd.
Allar completed 13 of 20 for 137 yards he would leave the game in the fourth quarter after suffering a leg injury that will now end his season James Franklin reported during his press conference so it will be in the hands of Ethan Grunkenmeye who they call Grunk and Jaxon Smolik to carry the Lions for the rest of the season.
Despite the loss the Lions feel good about building off individual performances Kaytron Allen totaled 90 yards on 16 carries star wideout Devonte Ross hauled in 7 catches for 115 yards in the teams loss.
Penn State will have to try something as the the Nittany LIons will look to regroup on the road next Saturday at Kinnick Stadium for a primetime matchup against the 4-2 Iowa Hawkeyes that are coming off 37-0 shutout win over the Wisconsin Badgers the win came on the road at Camp Randall Stadium.Penn State will hope to muster out their first conference win of the season they will head into Iowa City with a 3-3 record and an 0-3 record when it comes to conference play this season.
