Reed: State College tops MC in softball action

By Dom Reed

LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County softball team welcomed in State College for a conference showdown.

However, the Little Lions would come out victorious on the night winning 18-2.

State College opened by scoring on a single from Paige Moriarta to get things going. She wouldn’t be stopped. Moriarta would have two hits on the afternoon and two RBI groundouts to go along with that. The Little Lions also got solid at bats from MJ McShea having 3 hits on the night. Sydney Wells collected a hit in the teams 18-2 win. Elizabeth Sikorski, Kennedy Stahl and Ruby True all had hits as well. The Little Lions also got production off the bench.  Sarah Mellot had a triple and a RBI single.

“We just talk about getting better each day, putting together hits, feeding off each other but also picking each other up when its an inning where maybe we go three and out right,” said State College coach  Courtney Morrison. “We come back that next inning believing that whoever’s in that box can do the job for us. You saw its contagious. So we have been kind of preaching and continuing to say put the ball in play and so that’s what the girls did today and it shows.”

State College was led by stellar pitching from Addison Harpster. Moriarta came in relief without giving up a run.

Mifflin County could only push two runs across. Riley Hine, Malaina Maxwell and Piper Specht had hits on the afternoon.  Macy Pietzch had a pair of hits on the afternoon.

Obviously we had a good week last week as far as today you know we came out and played okay but then you know a little controversy, adversity hit and we let that affect all the different aspects of the game,” said Mifflin County coach Craig Weston. You tip your hat to State, thats a good team. They hit the ball well. Piper battled on the mound. You  can’t ask for anything more of her. We need to make some plays behind her and we need to score some runs. so at the end of the day we have to come back tomorrow and get back at it.”
