Port Royal, PA — The box score would show that Ricky Thornton Jr. would lead all but one lap in the A-main on Friday night at Port Royal Speedway, showing a dominant performance. His lead in the race wouldn’t go without a challenge though as Jonathan Davenport would challenge RTJ late in the race, but couldn’t hold the lead. Ricky Thornton Jr. would lead the final 10 laps of the A-main and bag his 2nd win at Port Royal Speedway this season worth $10,000.

Ricky Thornton Jr. would start alongside Brandon Sheppard for the 40 lap A-main event with Thornton jumping out to the early advantage.

Thornton would stretch his lead over a second advantage over Jonathan Davenport in the second position over the first 15 laps until he would catch lap traffic.

Davenport would begin to close the gap on Thornton as both cars would use all of Port Royal Speedway working both the top side and bottom sides of the corners.

Davenport would make his move for the lead, powering by Thornton off of turn two on the bottom side with just eleven laps remaining in the feature event.

With the momentum of the two lead cars and how they were trending, fans would think that Davenport would start to stretch his lead and runaway with the main event, but RTJ would stick his car to the top side of turns one and two and use the momentum to dive back around Davenport for the lead on the following lap.

Over the next 10 laps, Thornton Jr. would stretch his lead back out over a one second advantage and go on to take the checkered flag in the $10,000 to win A-main on Friday night.

Davenport would go on to finish in the runner up spot and Brandon Sheppard would round out the top 3.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series returns to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night for the Rumble by the River finale paying $50,000 to the winner of the 50 lap A-main event.

In Zimmerman Truck Repair limited late model competition, Brad McGinnis would hold off multiple competitors to pick up his first win of the 2025 season at Port Royal Speedway.

McGinnis would start to the outside of Matt Murphy in their 20-lap A-main event, and he would jump out to the early advantage until the caution flag waved with 3 laps completed.

On the ensuing restart, Murphy would charge to McGinnis’s outside coming around turn four to take the lead away with 16 laps remaining.

Murphy would continue to lead for the next 5 laps, but McGinnis would stay close to his tail over that time to take a shot back for the lead with eleven laps remaining.

McGinnis would go by Muprhy on the inside of turns one and two with Lane Snook following closely in tow in the third spot.

After McGinnis was able to get by Murphy, Snook would work to the inside of Murphy to take the runner up spot away and look to battle for the lead.

Jaxton Garmin would look to make the battle for the top spot a three car race after he got by Murphy on the very next lap, but as the top three entered into lapped traffic, space on the track would begin to get tight.

While racing into turn one, Garmin would have no where to go while racing for position with Snook and McGinnis when a lapped car would take a lane away, forcing Garmin to spin around the ring and draw the caution flag.

The field would restart with 7 laps to go, and Snook would look to capitalize in clean air to get around Brad McGinnis for the lead.

However, on that next restart, McGinnis would use the bottom and middle side of the corners to hold of Snook over the final 7 laps to pick up his first limited late model win of 2025.

The UMP Modifieds would close out the racing program on Friday night, and it was Mike Marlar putting on a racing clinic in the 20 lap A-main.

Marlar would start on the pole and lead all 20 laps over Ray Kable to cap the night off and pick up $2000 for his modified team. Spike Moore would round out the podium.

The UMP modifieds will return to competition on Saturday as the support division for the Rumble by the River with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
