Saint Joseph’s Boys Basketball Weekend Recap

Both JV and Varsity had two games this weekend starting with Friday’s home games against Northumberland Christian.  The JV team could not overcome a slow start and ended with a 55-38 loss.  Joey Summers led the way with 11 points, Isaac Bevilacqua added 10 and Nick Warner chipped in 9.
The varsity team played a gritty first half and stayed tight thanks to some hot shooting from Aidan Cross.  The Wolfpack battled but trailed 31-24 at halftime.  In the third quarter, NC built a 42-26 lead.  But a furious comeback led by Brendan Scanlon and Noah Straub got the Wolfpack back into it.  In the fourth the Wolfpack got the game to 46-41 but that would be as close as they would come.  The Final score 51-46.  Brendan Scanlon led the way with 16 points, Aidan Cross scored 11 and Noah Straub added 10.
Saturday the JV was not able to match up with the size and strength of the Penns Manor team and took a hard loss 66-16.   The Varsity team came out with a lot of fire and trailed by one at the end of the first quarter (12-11). But some cold shooting and turnover issues led to a 13 point deficit at halftime (32-19).  The third quarter was once again the Wolfpack’s undoing, as Penns Manor extended their zone defense creating turnovers and then hit the offensive boards hard to extend the lead to 23.  The Wolfpack kept it close in the 4th behind Brendan Scanlon’s 11 4th quarter points, but it was too little too late.  Final score read 72-54. Brendan Scanlon again led the way with 28 points, Aidan Cross added nine and Nick Warner had his highest total of the varsity season with seven.
The Wolfpack fall to 0-11 on the season.  Next game tonight (Monday) at Bishop Carroll.
