BOALSBURG, Pa.–
Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy senior Ruthanna McMurtrie signed her National Letter of Intent in a slightly unconventional way.  McMurtrie, surrounded by her parents at home, signed her letter with Saint Joseph’s Director of Athletics Justin Rodkey in a Zoom meeting. McMurtrie will continue her academic and volleyball career at Penn State Abington this Fall.

Saint Joseph’s Director of Athletics and Student Activities, Dr. Justin Rodkey, opened the ceremony with a few words. “Ruthanna, a three-sport athlete, has worked hard in the classroom as well as on the field, court, and track. She gives it her all during practices and games. She epitomizes what it means to be a genuine teammate. Ruthanna has remained resilient, persevered, and earned the opportunity to continue her career and pursue her dreams.

Dr. Rodkey concluded saying, “Ruthanna we are proud of you, we are looking forward to following your career once you depart from us, and we will support you has you press on towards your goals. You will forever be what few can claim, you are part of the Saint Joe’s WolfPack.

McMurtrie reflected on the ceremony saying, “Given the circumstances, it meant a lot to me that Dr. Rodkey still took the time to do a little ceremony. I know it wasn’t the traditional signing in front of all of my peers and coaches, but I was still able to share this important time to me with my parents who have been my biggest supporters through everything that has led me to this point. I am just thankful to have had all the coaches in my life in all the sports that I have participated in and for them to be so supportive of me in all of my endeavors.

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy, founded in 2011, provides a Christ-centered environment in which students grow and develop and live out the four pillars of faith, scholarship, leadership, and service to our God, their fellow students, their families, and the community.
