Saint Vincent’s Dakota Hershberger tallied a career-high 15 kills

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 18) – The Saint Vincent women’s volleyball team came back from an early 2-0 deficit to force a decisive fifth set, but the Bearcats were unable to complete the comeback, falling 3-2 to La Roche in a non-conference match in the Robert S. Carey Student Center.
The Bearcats (4-5) dropped the first two sets by identical scores of 25-22, before taking the third set, 25-20, and the fourth, 25-18. The Redhawks (4-2), however, would outlast the hosts in the fifth, 17-15, to close out the marathon match.
Rookie Dakota Hershberger led the Saint Vincent offense, putting down a career-high 15 kills, while also adding three service aces.
Hershberger was one of two Bearcats to reach double figures in kills, as Jessica Hughes put down 10.
Vivian Poach narrowly missed a triple-double, recording nine kills, 12 digs and a team-best 24 assists, while Madie Eagler doled out 20 helpers to go with 13 digs and a team-best four aces.
Reigning Presidents’ Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week Meegan Williams tallied eight kills and 17 digs.
Stacie Ramos paced the Bearcats with 28 digs, while Lauren Fox recorded five blocks, including four solo.
As a team, Saint Vincent put down 54 kills to La Roche’s 50, but the hosts were hampered by 36 attack errors. The Bearcats also nearly doubled-up the Redhawks in aces, 13-7, while tallying 106 digs to the Redhawks’ 96.
Saint Vincent will now travel north to play a trio of matches over the weekend at a tournament co-hosted by Grove City College and Westminster College. On Friday, Sept. 20, SVC will take on host Grove City, before making the short trek to Westminster on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match against the College of Wooster and a 4 p.m. bout against the host Titans.
