SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women’s basketball team got 17 first-half points Wednesday night from graduate Stephanie Knauer (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) and used a decisive third-quarter run to win its 12th straight game and clinch a playoff berth, defeating Kutztown by a 71-53 score in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup from Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (17-5, 12-4 PSAC) secured its sixth consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance with Wednesday’s win, pulling away from Kutztown (7-16, 4-11) by out-scoring the Golden Bears 25-12 in the third quarter. The Raiders led by as many as 25 points down the stretch after building a nine-point halftime lead, 35-26, as Knauer made her first seven shots from the field to help pace the Raider offense.

Knauer finished with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting, making 4-of-6 attempts from the free-throw line. Senior Logan Snyder (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) had 16 points – eight in the third quarter – and five assists. Senior Lauren Gold (Elkins Park, Pa./Abington Friends) hit four three-pointers to total 12 points, while senior Colleen Young (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored 11 points.

Off the bench, senior Haley Scullion (Chalfont, Pa./Archbishop Wood) showcased some slick moves to score six of her eight points in the third quarter. Scullion scored eight points on 4-of-5 shooting, tied a career high with five assists, and pulled down three rebounds in 18 minutes.

Shippensburg remained efficient, posting 18 assists to 10 turnovers. SU also maintained its staunch defense, boosting its record to 13-0 this season when it holds an opponent to less than 60 points in a game.

The Raiders have established a three-game Eastern Division lead with six regular-season games remaining. SU is 10-0 against the Eastern Division this season and has won each divisional game by at least 10 points.
