State College 12s tops Big Valley in Friday all-star action

BELLEVILLE – Friday night, the undefeated and unbeaten Big Valley 12U All-Star baseball team hosted fellow undefeated State College in a District 5 contest.

At stake, an advancement in the winners bracket, moving on step closer to a battle for the championship.

Big Valley is coming off a convincing win over 7-3 victory over Nittany Valley.

State College dominated in their contest against Bellefonte 25-1.

Winning the coin toss,  State College chose to be the home team.

In the end, the State College bats were too much for the feisty Big Valley team, winning 10-0 in four innings.

Big Valley started Caleb Peachey on the mound at pitcher while State College retaliated with hurler Vincent Harris. Harris threw a one-hitter in the win.

Big Valley’s lone hit came from Brooks Drukenmiller.

State College was led by Anthony Hill (2-for-2, 2runs, RBI) and Andrew McNeely (2-for-2,2RBI, run) who both finished with two hits each.

State College finished their night with nine hits.

Both teams battled tough in the first inning with neither team allowing a run.

In the second, the Little Lions held Big Valley in check.

State got their offense going in the bottom of the inning, posting four.

Harris helped his own cause posting a lead off single.

Drew Gilroy followed with a walk.

Hill roped an RBI single, scoring Harris on the play. Gilroy moved up a base on the hit.

McNeely followed with a single as well, picking up an RBI by scoring Gilroy.

Jackson Lawrence had the first out as he reached on a fielders’ choice after McNeely was forced out.

Hill later scored on a miscue, making it 3-0.

Josh Yourey and Joseph Trego brought home State College last runs, poking an RBI single into left field and an RBI sacrifice fly, making it a 4-0 advantage.

Big Valley’s Connor Donovan flashed some leather as he brought down a catch in left field in spectacular fashion, helping keep the Little Lions off the board in the third.

However, the Little Lions finished off things in the bottom of the fourth posting four runs.

With the win, State College  keeps its undefeated streak alive heading into week two of competition.
