State College Area Roller Derby is Recruiting New Members

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
State College Area Roller Derby is Recruiting New Members
State College, PA (March 8, 2023) The 2023 State College Area Roller (SCAR) Derby Board of Directors and Coaching Staff are pleased to announce that we are recruiting new skating members, both skaters and skating officials, for our next FreshCuts [new recruits] Class at C3 Sports [211 Ellis Pl, State College].
We have a Recruitment Night on March 12th, from 7 – 9 pm at C3 Sports. The recruitment night will include an introduction to SCAR Derby, how to become a part of the community, information on the gear you will need, introducing the basics of roller, and we will have current league members available for a Q & A. There will not be any skating, but we ask that attendees wear sneakers and comfortable clothing you can move in, because we will be doing activities that relate to roller derby for those interested.
Our FreshCuts attend practices two times a week on Monday and Thursday from 8-10 pm at C3 Sports. Practices include learning how to skate and instruction on the basics of roller derby. We have loaner gear available for anyone interested to use, with a refundable deposit, until they are able to purchase their own gear.
We are also recruiting new volunteer and non-skating official members on an ongoing basis. New Volunteers and Non-Skating Officials are invited to attend any and all practices to learn more about the sport and receive training for various positions.
We are asking anyone interested in joining us on March 12th to register via the link available on our website [scarderby.com], on the Recruitment Night event on our Facebook page, or to please email us at scarderby@gmail.com. If you are unable to make it to the Recruitment Night event on March 12th, please send us an email for more information prior to joining us on or before March 27th.
“We are excited to welcome our next class of FreshCuts to SCAR Derby!” said Rachel Gaddis, President of State College Area Roller Derby. “It’s always exciting to introduce new people to our sport, to see people learn just what they are capable of, and watch them achieve new goals.”
If you are unable to join our next FreshCuts Class but are interested in joining SCAR Derby in the future, please reach out to us via email or any of our social media outlets and we will add you to our mailing list for future recruitment classes. We are always excited to welcome new members to SCAR Derby.
About State College Area Roller Derby
SCAR Derby is a skater-owned and operated flat-track derby league founded in 2010. We are a volunteer organization, including skater athletes and officials. Our membership is comprised of individuals from the Centre Region spanning a wide range of ages and lifestyles. Together, we form a strong community of athleticism, healthy competition, and fellowship. In 2015, SCAR Derby proudly became a member of Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and now competes for an international ranking. SCAR Derby has multiple teams that practice year-round and compete from February through November. We operate as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, funded by league dues, ticket sales, skating clinic fees, sponsorship/ad sales, and donations.
