State College bats too much for young Big Valley 10Us team

BOALSBURG – State College came out with bats a blazing Monday night in their 10U contest against Big Valley in the opening round of 10U All-Star action.
The Little Lions seemed to find all the holes finishing with nine hits en route to the 14-0 victory over a young Big Valley team.
Picking up the win for State College was Rowan Walker who struck out six. Braden Downs came in late to combine with Walker on the 3-hit shut out.
Despite the shut out, there were some positives for the Red and white.
A little silver lining for the visiting team was in the second and third Big Valley ended the inning with the bases loaded.
“They were finding the holes tonight and there is not much you can do about that. We had two innings there where we had the bases loaded with six men on base at the time the score was 7-0, if you bring in six there with a little help with hitting the ball we were right back in it,” Big Valley manager Shawn Wagner said. “We got work to do. We are young. We’re not filled with 10-year olds. We’re going to go out and work hard and battle like we did last year. State College is an excellent ball team over there. Everyone from one through nine hit the ball.”
Picking up hits for Big Valley were Cooper Walters, Brayden Stitt and Dekker Pietesch.
Picking up multiple hit games for State College were Lucas Bierly who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI and Tiernan Elliot who went 2-for-2, two runs and 2RBIs in the victory.
After winning the coin toss making them the home team, State held Big Valley in the first and put it in their offenses hands to get them started.
With one out, Bierly lifted a ball into shallow right field.
He then scored on a double by Tiernan Elliot, giving State the 1-0 lead.
Elliot wouldn’t be on base long as Walker helped his own cause, tripling down the left field line.
Braden Downs finished the State College scoring as he singled in Walker, ending the first as a 3-0 advantage.
Big Valley tried to get something going in the second.
Reece Bell walked to start things off.
With two outs, Thad Gerwick also walked. Cooper Walters loaded the bases hustling out a single.
However, State College was able to get the final out without any runs.
In the bottom of the inning State College bats were at it again, this time plating four in the process.
Highlighting the inning was a Max Hercane triple and an Elliot triple, taking a 7-0 lead into the third.
Once again, Big Valley managed to rally to load the bases.
But like the previous inning,State College found away to get out of the inning unscathed.
In the third, the wheels came off for Big Valley as State College was able to make the most out of some Big Valley miscues to plate seven more runs, to end the scoring at 14-0.
Big Valley will be back in action Friday against the loser of the Penns Valley and Bellefonte contest.
