State College Field Hockey hosted Central Dauphin on State High’s North Turf field on Wednesday night. Both teams were able to move the ball offensively and fought for possession. Central Dauphin’s Riley Yonchiuk, was the first to score when she tipped a shot from Bella Culp into the cage with 3:23 remaining in the first period. During the second quarter, State College worked to contain CD’s offense, but it was SC’s goalkeeper, Bayla Furmanek who worked the hardest and saved 9 shots on goal to hold CD to only one goal by Hope Rose, assisted by Bella Culp at 2:16. During the third quarter SC seemed to lose some of their offensive momentum, but worked hard to keep CD out of the circle.
CD continued to move the ball up the field and near the end of the third quarter, CD earned a penalty corner and Hannah Guarante inserted the ball to Hope Rose who scored with 2:34 remaining. The final goal was scored in the third quarter with :02 seconds remaining. Hope Rose, once again, drove the ball into the circle and fired a shot into the goal.
Although SC was more successful in controlling possession during the fourth quarter, they were unable to convert on multiple penalty corners or shots on goal and the game ended with a final score SC-0, CD- 4. SC had 8 penalty corners, 4 shots on goal, and a whopping 16 goalkeeper saves to Central Dauphin’s 8 penalty corners, 20 shots on goal and 4 goalkeeper saves. State College is now 8-4-1 and will play Mifflin County for the District 6 Championship on Tuesday, November 3at the Bald Eagle Area Stadium at 7:00 pm.
