State College Field hockey falls to CD

State College Field Hockey played Central Dauphin at Landis Field on cold and wet Monday night. After quickly moving the ball up the field and into the circle, State College struck first, when at 11:04 Maddie Shomo knocked the ball into the net for the first goal of the game putting State College in the lead 1-0. Unfortunately, that was the last goal State College would see for the rest of the game. Despite their strong play, work to control the ball, and SC goalie Bayla Furmanek’s 13 saves, they were unable to stop CD’s Hope Rose. Rose scored on two corner shots at 7:02 and 5:42in the first quarter after inserter, Hannah Guarante, passed the ball to Rose at the top of the circle. Then with 1:16 remaining in the first quarter, Hope Rose scored again on a straight shot to the top of the net. During the second quarter State College controlled the ball and worked defensively to hold CD to 1-3, but in the third quarter, CD’s Riley Yonchiuk, tipped another shot from Rose into the goal. Rose scored again with 2:40 remaining in the third quarter to put CD up 5-1. During the fourth quarter, State College continued to move the ball into CD’s circle and had several shots on goal, but was unable to convert and the final goal of the game came with :17 seconds remaining, when Rose knocked her final shot into the cage to end the game with a score of SC 1 – CD 6. State College is now 4-2 for the season and will travel to Chambersburg on Wednesday, Oct. 14 for their next game.
