State College LAX dominates Selinsgrove in shut out victory

STATE COLLEGE – Simply a dominating performance!

Offensively, the State College girls lacrosse team scored early and often while its defense controlled the flow of play, giving the Lady Lions an impressive 14-0 victory.

With the win, the Little Lions improves to 8-1 on the season.

Just minutes into the game, Kaylee Schaeffer-Hood lit up the lamp on the team’s second possession of the game.

Minutes later, teammate Lizzie Paterno went full speed ahead and took a shot head onto the Seals goalie, upping the lead to a 2-0 lead.

Still with 21:54 left in the first, Leah Moyer made it 3-0 on an assist by Ariana Angus.

State showed that it had a quick-strike offense and had strong stick work, allowing Selinsgrove only three possessions in State’s end of the field the entire half.

State College made it 4-0 with still over 20-minutes showing in the first half, Moyer caught a pass from  Schaeffer-Hood.

Less than a minute later, teammate Sydney O’Donnell hit the back of the net at 19:31.

Phebe Harlocher twisted and turned and blasted a turn-around shot, making it a 6-0 lead.

State College called a time out to set up its next move.

Coming out of the time out, the Little Lions set up its offense and worked the ball strategically around, looking for a good shot opportunity.

Working the clock down to the 12-minute mark, State College worked the ball into O’Donnell who slid another shot past the Selinsgrove goalie.

After notching some assists, it would be Angus’ time to shine as she finished a spin move that caught the Seals goalie off balanced and scored goal number eight.

Moyer added yet another goal to increase the State College advantage to 9-0.

Rounding out the scoring in the first half was Nicole Zeiler, giving her team the 10-0 lead at the intermission.

Though the State College slowed down the tempo but still managed to keep the goals coming.

Moyer started out the second with a goal thanks from an assist by O’Donnell.

Schaeffer-Hood added to the lead at the 17:20 mark.

Angus followed with her second as the game fell below the eight-minute mark.

Herlocher ended the scoring with :30 ticks left on the clock en route to the shut out victory.

State College goalie Grace Jones was a perfect 3-for-3 when challenged.
