State College volleyball sweeps MIfflin County

LEWISTOWN – Two rivals renewed acquaintances Monday night when the MIfflin County girls volleyball team hosted State College.

In the first contest of the night,  the Huskies kept it close early staying within one point, falling behind be just one at 8-7.

State College scored in consecutive  turns picking up a side out on a corner placement by the State College front row.

Picking up the service point to up the lead to two was Sam Shala.

After four consecutive side outs, the Lions would move the lead to three thanks to a service point coming from Iris Archibald forcing the Huskies to not return the serve.

Minutes later, State College went on a roll.

Leading 11-8, the offense started to sizzle for the State.

Kate Lally was on fire at the serving line, posting nine consecutive serving points, upping the Little Lions lead to 20-8.

In the next four sets the two both equaled it’s scoring, giving State College a 23-10 advantage.

From there State College outscored MIfflin County the rest of the way tying the Huskies 2-2 and taking the 1-0 lead in sets, winning 25-

In the end, the Little Lions were able to come out victors in three sets. State College won the first two games in convincing fashion winning 25-12 and 25-6.

In the second contest it would be all State College as they dominated from beginning to end, making it a 25-6 victory and adding another game under their belt.

But the Huskies wouldn’t go out without a fight as they would battle toe-to-toe with the Lady Lions  before falling late 25-20.

In the third game, MIfflin County took a 2-1 lead on a service point. It would be the first of eight.
