Still Undefeated! Penns Valley girls continue to roll

The Penns Valley girls soccer team opened the week on a good note as it topped St. Joseph Academy 5-0.

It was another rough first half for us where we just made things harder for ourselves.  We created some decent chances but couldn’t finish and went into halftime frustrated.  But credit again to our girls for their response in the second half.  We moved a couple girls around and Katie Martell popped up again with two more goals for us with help from Anna Korman and Nikki Denger.  The two early goals settled us down and we were able to play much better as a team.  Scotty Dinges did some great work for us down the right side but unfortunately wasn’t rewarded with a goal.  But Cate Goodwin came up with two great goals for us to put the game away, both off assists from Maria Lovallo.  Cate’s been a great performer for us and always puts in a lot of hard work so it was great to see her get rewarded for that tonight.  And we were able to finish things off when two freshmen combined, Lily Boeckel and Julianna Lovallo, for their first points of the season,” said Penns Valley Coach Andrew Beverly. “While we can be frustrated with our performance in the first half, I’m proud of the girls for sorting things out and taking care of the second half to get the result.  We now go straight into a game tomorrow night against a very strong Clearfield team.”

Penns Valley’s Katie Martell landed the first goal off of an assist by Anna Korman at 41:32.

Minutes later Martell hit goal number two off of an assist by Nikki Denger at 42:48.

Cate Goodwin hit her first of her two goals off a pass by Maria Lovallo at 56:09.

PV – Goodwin knocked in her second to make it 4-0 off an assist by Maria Lovallo.

Rounding out the Rams scoring was Julianna Lovallo hit the last goal from a pass from Lily Boeckel at 69:57.

The Lady Rams outshot the Wolves 36-2 and in corner kicks by a 10-2 margin.

Penns Valley goalie Kylie Auman notched two saves while St. Joseph’s Bridget Scanlan had 22.

Penns Valley’s record is now 6-0 and 4-0 in the Mt. League.  The Rams next game is tomorrow vs Clearfield.
