The Bellefonte Lions capture Bellefonte Major League title; sweeps M&T

BELLEFONTE – Facing the threat of “ Mother Nature” spoiling game number two of the Bellefonte’s Little League Major League Championship series, it did not deter either M&T Bank or the Lions from having fun and leaving everything they had on the field.

Like in the first game, the Lions would find away to bring home the title by a score of 11-3 Wednesday night.

On the mound, the Lions put Braden Fortney on the mound to go up against Quinn Park

M&T was the home team and shut down the Lions in the top of the first.

They took the first lead in the bottom of inning.

Ashton Howell singled to start off the inning.

Park followed with a single of his own, moving Howell up to second.

Both later scored on a single by Alten Howell brought both in with an RBI single.

The Lions roared back in the second, posting six runs to put itself in the lead by four.

Holden Howard led off the inning with a single.

Next up was Alaina Mishock, who walked as did teammate Ben Ranio, loading the bases.

All would score via a fielder’s choice by Braeden Way and a double by Kaleb Tomasacci.

Tomasacci later scored on a single by Zach Leyman.

When the dust settled, the Lions found themselves ahead 6-2.

The Lions held M&T at bay in the bottom of the inning and put the bats back in the hands of its sizzling offense.

Fortney led off with a one out triple. He quickly scored when Tomasacci doubled, upping it to a 7-2 advantage.

Leyman picked up his 4th RBI on the night on a single that scored Tomasacci.

Both defenses stiffened in the fourth inning.

The Lions rallied for three more to up its advantage to 11-2.

But M&T refused to go away without a fight as they scored a run in the bottom of the inning, cutting it to an 11-3 contest.

But it was too little too late as the Lions were able to hold onto the lead, taking the title 11-3.
