The Juniata Indians’ Cross Country team compete at the Mid Penn Championships for the first time

With so many cross country invitationals being cancelled this year due to COVID-19, the Juniata Cross Country team was very fortunate to be allowed to compete in the Mid Penn Championships in the class AA races.  Senior James Hazard led the Indians with a 6th place finish with a time of 17:35.  He was followed next by Micah Fausey in 21st place with a personal best time of 18:48.  Tim Kelly came in next for the Indians with a 28th place finish and a personal best time of 19:18.  Rounding out the Indians’ roster was Brody Powell 45th – 20:52, Yadiel Nieves-Aguirre 48th – 21:24, Noah Sheaffer 60th – 23:35, and Kaleb Louder 63rd – 29:29.  Weber Long of Greencastle Antrim won the AA race with a time of 15:48.
In the class AA girls race, junior Emily Houtz led the Indians with a 12th place finish running a time of 23:19.  She was followed by freshmen Elizabeth Gaisior in 34th place with a personal best time of 26:27.  Shortly after was senior Katie Hart coming in with a 37th place finish with a personal best time of 27:49.  Rounding out the girls roster was Rachel Fisher in 39th place with a personal best time of 28:23 and Peyton Sheaffer in 44th place with a time of 30:19.  Peyton Ellis of Boiling Springs won the girls race with a time of 19:38.  Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “I was pleased with the efforts of both the boys and girls teams.  Five of them walked away with personal best on this challenging 5K course.”  The Juniata Indians will compete next at the District 6 Championships held in Reedsville, PA on Saturday, October 31.
