Yoder: Bulldogs Beat Trojans!

By Joshua Yoder

MOUNT UNION –  The Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs took advantage of their opportunities in the second half as they defeated the Mount Union Trojans by the final score of 51-28 in ICC football action Friday night.

It was pretty much a shootout between the two teams throughout the first half with both teams answering one another with a touchdown of their own.

The Bulldogs got on the board first and in a hurry to using an up tempo style of attack as in less than two minutes, they were able to punch the ball in thanks to a Mason Campagna 25 yard run for the score.

Mount Union answered three minutes later as Nasir Collins found Ty’Jeir Hooper that went 31 yards for the touchdown.

Claysburg then scored on a ten yards pass from Campagna that landed into the hands of Gavin Treon.

The final score of the opening quarter was courtesy of Collins who broke loose and flew down the field for the touchdown going 68 yards.

The trend continued going into the second quarter, but this time things went a little side tracked for the Bulldogs as a fumble occurred and was recovered by John Luke Suchan. The Trojans then turned it into points as Collins again reached the endzone going 16 yards to give Mount Union the lead.

However, Claysburg shook off the fumble and muscled its way down the field, eventually capping off the drive with a QB sneak from Campagna to even the score at 21 heading into the break.

But when the second half began, it was all Bulldogs starting with a safety after an intentional grounding was called to give them a 23-21 lead.

Mere seconds later, Claysburg scored again with a 35 yard touchdown run from running back Remington Diehl.

The Bulldogs continued their momentum into the fourth quarter as Campagna fought his way in for another touchdown with a QB sneak.

Mount Union continued to battle as the Trojans were able to fight their way down the field and finished the drive off with an incredible pass from Collins to Hooper which ended up being 44 yards for the touchdown.

But again, Claysburg responded seconds later with a monstrous 83 yard run from Campagna before Diehl went 23 yards to score the final touchdown of the evening.

Campagna went 14 of 18 with 138 yards and a touchdown pass. He also had 21 carries for 268 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Diehl had 13 carries that went 164 yards while scoring twice.

For Mount Union, Collins led the way going 218 yards in the air with two touchdown passes on 16 of 24 passing. Collins also carried the ball 17 times and went 157 yards with two rushing touchdowns. Also Hooper had himself a game with nine catches for 170 yards and two touchdown catches.

It was also Homecoming for the Trojans that evening and it was Guilia Whitesel who became the 2025 Homecoming Queen. Congrats to Miss Whitesel!

Mount Union falls to (7-2) and will host Meyersdale next Friday.

Until Next Time!
