Yoder: Kish North Wins Over McVeytown!

By Joshua Yoder
MCVEYTOWN – With the rain coming down, both teams were looking to make their opportunities count. But in the end, it was the Kish North who would take advantage of their chances as they defeated the McVeytown Eagles 12-0 in a CKYFCL Midget Football game Wednesday night.
The first quarter of the game went scoreless, but there was plenty of action throughout the period. The Eagles had some highlight plays from Henley Strausser who had a tackle for a loss as well as an interception.
Kish North also made some big defensive plays as well as Kannon Moyer had not one, but two tackles for a loss during the frame.
Moyer came back for some more and collected yet another tackle for a loss during the second quarter.
It appeared as though the game was going to be scoreless going into halftime, but Kish North was able to maintain a drive and eventually punched the ball into the endzone for the touchdown which was a nine yard run by Duke Peachey with just 45 seconds to go. This ended up being the only score of the half giving Kish North a 6-0 lead at the break.
The third quarter was much like the opening quarter as both teams showcased some great defense. For the Eagles, they had some major contributions from Owen Fultz who blocked a punt that was then recovered by Liam Bender.
Kish North had some big plays on defense as well starting with Moyer who had gotten a sack. Wyatt Hassinger and Jasper Snook combined for a sack and Jace Atherton collected an interception.
But it was during the fourth quarter where Kish was able to put the game on ice as Peachey found an open Atherton and completed a four yard touchdown pass to make it 12-0. Hassinger also had an interception in the fourth.
McVeytown was able to make some plays during the quarter with some big runs by Alex Weaver. Calvin Napikoski had a tackle for a loss during the frame.
Kish looks to keep the winning ways going as they will hit the road again on Sunday against the Derry-Decatur Cyclones.
Meanwhile, McVeytown will look to bounce back also on Sunday as the Eagles will host the Terrace Tigers.
Good luck to both teams!
