MCVEYTOWN – The McVeytown Eagles got a head and never looked back as they defeated the Terrace Tigers by the final score of 41-18 during a CKYFCL Midget division football game Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter where the highlighted plays were a tackle for a loss by Weston Wileman of Terrace and Owen Fultz of McVeytown. The Eagles finally got on the board thanks to Calvin Napikoski who went 45 yards for the rushing touchdown.
Three minutes later, Napikoski struck again, this time rushing 18 yards for the touchdown.
But with just over a minute left to play in the opening half, the Tigers found their way into the endzone thanks to Isaac Torres who flew down the field for 58 yards for the touchdown.
McVeytown responded with just 44 seconds remaining in the first half as Alex Weaver darted his way into the endzone with a big run of his own going 45 yards.
The lone touchdown of the third quarter came from Napikoski who ripped the ball out of the hands of the Terrace running back’s hands and moved his way 53 yards for the touchdown.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Tigers were able to close the gap a bit as Torres again powered his way into the endzone for a 16 yard rushing touchdown.
The Eagles made a very quick response as nine seconds later, Napikoski flew downfield for a 46 yard touchdown run.
Liam Bender scored the final McVeytown touchdown, going three yards for the score.
The Tigers continued to battle and finished off with a massive pass by Owen Deans that went right into the arms of Torres to complete a 57 yard pass.
Defensively, the Eagles had some plays from Cole Laughlin, Fultz, Henley Strausser, Bender and Weaver.
For the Tigers, they were led by Wileman as well as Parker Yeater.
McVeytown travels to face Kish South on Sunday while the Tigers will host the Burnham Bulldogs on Sunday as well.
