By Joshua Yoder
OMAHA, NE – With their 2-1 victory over the USC Trojans, the Penn State Nittany Lions have won Pool D and will be moving into the semi-finals of the Big Ten baseball tournament.
The number nine seeded Nittany Lions had to go through two tough days of baseball to get to this point. In game one, Penn State went up against the Washington Huskies and managed to hold off late scoring from them to win 5-3.
Ryan DeSanto pitched 5.2 innings and collected his eighth win of the season. DeSanto had three strikeouts and three walks and only allowed three hits.
Offensively, the Nittany Lions got RBIs from Bryce Molinaro (2), Jesse Jaconski (1), Ryan Weingartner (1) from a home run and Cohl Mercado (1).
Which brings us all to today’s game where it appeared as though things were going into extra innings.
With the score tied at one apiece heading into the top of the ninth inning where catcher Nate Voss tanked one to left field which ended up being the game winning run for the Nittany Lions winning 2-1.
Voss went 2-for-3 at the plate, Derek Cease also went 2-for-3 and Paxton Kling went a perfect 3-for-3 for Penn State.
Dimond Loosi got the win on the mound for the Nittany Lions while Chase Renner collected the save.
Penn State now awaits to see who will meet them in the semi-finals. The game will be played on Saturday at 3 p.m.
